Saban Entertainment, the company that has grown to become one of the world’s leading players in children’s entertainment largely on the success of its once-controversial action show phenomenon Power Rangers, is reviving one of the icons of television wholesomeness, Captain Kangaroo.
Scheduled for launch in 1997 as a half-hour syndicated live-action show, The All New Captain Kangaroo will rekindle many memories for those who watched the Emmy-winning show for more than 30 years on CBS. Saban’s version will be very much like the original, with characters such as Mr. Greenjeans, Bunny Rabbit and Grandfather Clock making faithful returns, as well as a new Captain Kangaroo, who looks like a scion of the mustachi’ed, kangaroo-pocketed original.
The show, aimed at preschoolers, will include many instructional elements, such as field trips and animation segments that will provide various life lessons.
Saban has a full licensing and merchandising program planned, including a national live character tour.
