U.K.-based indie producer Zenith Entertainment has acquired rights to the publishing division of Two-Can, a children’s multimedia and educational book pubco. The acquisition represents one of the first phases in Zenith’s business expansion strategy, giving the entertainment producer access to over 200 titles for development into children’s educational TV and video programming.
Steve Matthews, Zenith’s CEO, says the company is currently looking at developing 10 of the titles for television, including preschool book Little Giants and practical science series Make it Work, as well as the encyclopedia-like Interfact book series and multimedia disks.
Zenith also plans to launch publishing properties based on its own TV titles such as Little Pod, an educational preschool series based on a space pod passing the world’s knowledge onto its last computer after the end of the world.
Two-Can’s creative division will continue to operate as an independent creative business, but will work closely with Zenith Entertainment to develop future opportunities for both the publishing and television markets.
Zenith is also actively developing a wide range of animation projects for the U.K. and international markets, working with media consultants in both the U.K. and the U.S. as part of its strategy to expand children’s programming.
