Cartoon Network Studios has opened its first-ever Storyboard Artist Training Program for submissions in an effort to provide career opportunities for emerging talent.
As part of the Cartoon Network Studios Academy artists incubator initiative, the storyboard program is a 90-day, 40-hour-a-week paid union position that will run every spring, from February to April.
Three to five final trainees will be selected early next year, following a review of the program’s top 25 applicants. Additional guidelines and information can be found here.
Among other skills, finalists will receive instruction in advanced storyboarding techniques, dialogue writing, gesture drawing, and defining elements of physical comedy. They will also get firsthand animated production experience, and writing and boarding lessons on rotating in-house productions with various guest instructors.
The initiative comes in the midst of growing industry demand for storyboard artists focused on animated kids content.
