Following a capital-building IPO on the German stock market last April, TV-Loonland is continuing its international expansion run with the acquisition of the U.K.’s Telemagination.

Loonland CEO Peter Völkle says the prominent toon studio was snapped up last month to give the Munich-based animation producer a U.K. presence and beef up its rights library. With the acquisition, Loonland will gain such kid series as The Animals of Farthing Wood (EBU commission, 39 x 30 minutes), Noah’s Island (EBU commission, 39 x 30 minutes) and The Last Polar Bears (1 x 30 minutes), which is slated to air on the U.K.’s ITV this December.

The acquisition, which falls on the heels of a slew of first-look and co-pro agreements with such prodcos as AAC Kids, Sony Wonder, Cinar and Nelvana, will also add to the existing animation facilities in Hungary and Korea.

As a result of the deal, John M. Mills has stepped down as chairman and executive producer of Telemagination, but will stay on as a consultant. The studio is now co-directed by Marion Edwards, who recently left Telemagination to become head of development at Loonland, and John Bullivant, Loonland’s director of programs.
