Cartoon Network announced it will increase its Romanian footprint from 250,000 to 431,000 homes via Astral Telecom, extending to over 1.5 million homes in total. Romania boasts a population of 22.5 million and 50% cable penetration (with no DTH or digital terrestrial TV), making it one of the largest cable markets in Eastern Europe. Cartoon Network has been airing in Romanian Bucharest, Galati, Suceava and Braila since 1996 and is available on eight different channels throughout Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
