DreamWorks Animation has promoted Kelly Betz to serve as CFO. The role sees Betz expand her financial oversight of the company’s television business to include feature films.

Dually reporting to DreamWorks Animation Television president Margie Cohn and DreamWorks Animation Features COO Abhijay Prakash, Betz will be responsible for short- and long-term financial planning, production finance and overall division profitability. She will also continue to provide analysis for DWA’s TV greenlighting process.

Betz has held various roles during her 13-year tenure at DreamWorks, including head of finance for the overall studio. In her most recent position as CFO at DreamWorks Animation Television, she established TV finance functions to support the studio’s massive growth and was instrumental in the NBCUniversal acquisition process, when Comcast acquired the studio for US$3.8 billion in 2016.

Betz’s elevated position comes as DreamWorks’ film division has six features and eight short films in various stages of production (including How to Train Your Dragon 3 in 2019 and Trolls 2 in 2020). The company’s television division is also currently producing 16 original animated series, including Trollhunters (which is being turned into a trilogy called Tales of Arcadia).
