Beijing’s JY Animation and Italian pubcaster Rai have inked a deal to send 104 episodes of Mini Pet Pals to China’s largest VOD platform, iQiyi.

The six-minute series’ first season will debut on iQiyi next month in Mandarin, while the opening theme song will remain in Italian in order to make the language known to Chinese children. Mini Pet Pals‘ second season, which is currently in production, has also sold to the Chinese platform.

The 2D-animated series is co-produced by Rai and Italian production company Gruppo Alcuni. Aimed at preschoolers, Mini Pet Pals follows younger versions of characters from Alcuni and Rai’s Pet Pals series, which has been distributed to 137 countries worldwide.

The VOD deal comes as iQiyi continues to ramp up its Western content offerings. Last month, the kid-friendly platform picked up Portfolio Entertainment toons The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About That! and Doki. Earlier this year, iQiyi created a CBeebies digital block with nearly 300 hours of preschool content from BBC Worldwide, and scored rights to DHX Media’s Teletubbies reboot.
