The Twilight Saga stages a re-release

Lionsgate is planning cinematic events and new merch to mark the first book's 20th anniversary.

Two decades after author Stephenie Meyer’s novel Twilight was first published, Lionsgate is looking to recharge the hit supernatural franchise with a bunch of celebrations planned this fall.

The studio has partnered with specialty distributor Fathom Entertainment to re-release all five Twilight Saga films in a marathon running from October 29 to November 2. This five-night engagement will take place in theaters across the US, including some exclusive roundtable footage for die-hard fans.

Grossing US$3.3 billion between 2008 to 2012, the Twilight movies are well-positioned to sell a good number of tickets in this big-screen return. There’s a growing market demand for limited-run cinematic events (which helped Fathom increase its revenues by 45% in 2024), and the mostly dormant Twilight IP has remained relevant to teens, thanks to meme-fueled vampiric nostalgia.

These event screenings should also build hype for an animated series adaptation of Twilight companion novel Midnight Sun that was ordered by Netflix last year. To that end, Lionsgate has become active again on the official Twilight YouTube channel (368,000 subscribers), which has returned to uploading content this month after a 12-year hiatus.

Lionsgate is also working on a new consumer products program for the franchise, with merch dropping on its online storefront and retailers nationwide later this fall. Little, Brown Books for Young Readers will publish three special-edition books on September 30—TWILIGHT: Deluxe Collector’s Edition, TWILIGHT: 20th Anniversary Edition and The Twilight Saga Deluxe Hardcover Collection

And the franchise’s annual fanfest is also scheduled to run from September 11 to 14 in Forks, Washington (where the story takes place), with Meyer participating as an honored guest this year. The “Forever Twilight in Forks Festival” will feature immersive experiences, themed parties and panels.
