In the lead-up to spooky season, Apple TV+ is looking to reel in kids with a new limited series called The Sisters Grimm (pictured, six x 22 minutes).
The streamer has set an October 3 launch date for this 2D toon based on a series of bestselling children’s fantasy books by Michael Buckley.
Showrunner Amy Higgins (Austin & Ally) developed the screen adaptation with Erica Rothschild (Sofia the First), and LA’s Titmouse produced it with Apple TV+. Both Higgins and Buckley are involved as EPs.

Amy Higgins, who serves as showrunner, developed this new fairytale detective series with Erica Rothschild.
The premise focuses on two young sisters who are descendants of folktale storytellers the Brothers Grimm. Living with their mysterious grandmother, the girls put on their detective hats to discover that their famous male ancestors’ iconic fairytales were actually history books.
Featuring nine titles published by Abrams Books between 2005 and 2012, Buckley’s kidlit franchise has earned an Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Platinum Award (2006) and a Kirkus Reviews Best Fantasy Book honor (2005).
Laden with mystery elements, The Sisters Grimm should attract audiences seeking out family-friendly seasonal content to get in the Halloween spirit. Apple TV+ similarly capitalized on the summer season by launching a Snoopy Presents: A Summer Musical special last month.
