Online creators MrBeast and Mark Rober are joining forces on #TeamWater, their latest in a string of environmental fundraising initiatives that also includes TeamTrees and TeamSeas.
This new campaign aims to raise US$40 million by August 31, with the goal of providing clean water to two million people globally. #TeamWater is being run in partnership with international nonprofit WaterAid and has tapped a massive number of other creators from 84 countries (more than 3,000, according to Variety‘s estimates).
TeamTrees and TeamSeas collectively raised more than US$50 million to plant 20 million trees and remove 30 million pounds of trash from natural water bodies.
“We’ve seen the power of the internet when it rallies behind a cause,” Said Jimmy Donaldson (a.k.a. MrBeast) and Rober in a joint statement. “Now, we’re taking on clean water, because no one should have to live without it.”
“Every dollar raised will fund long-term, sustainable water solutions—from solar-powered wells to gravity-fed pipelines—delivering clean water to millions, for generations to come,” said Kelly Parsons, CEO of WaterAid America.
Donations are already pouring in on the official Team Water website. And at press time, MrBeast’s announcement video for the campaign had generated more than a million views in less than an hour.
