- Scholastic’s Graphix imprint has inked a new deal with children’s book author Dav Pilkey to adapt the first book in his iconic Captain Underpants graphic novel series into a manga title. Japanese manga artist Motojiro (Battle Brave, Time Warp) will illustrate Captain Underpants: The First Epic Manga, which is set to roll out to retailers worldwide in April.
- Paramount Global and Sanrio have partnered to launch a McDonald’s Happy Meal crossover featuring the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Hello Kitty & Friends. This new campaign will kick off in the US first and run throughout August, reimagining Hello Kitty characters in TMNT-themed costumes. Sanrio executed a similar Happy Meal campaign last year that mashed up Hello Kitty and Konami’s tentpole Yu-Gi-Oh franchise.
- Penguin Ventures has tapped Smiffys to manufacture and distribute a new range of costumes, accessories and partyware inspired by The World of Eric Carle characters. Initial SKUs will roll out across the UK next spring, initially focusing on Carle’s iconic picture book The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Though no further costumes have been announced yet, other well-known Carle titles include Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? and The Mixed-Up Chameleon.
