Sony Music is teaming up with Aniplex to co-produce a new anime series that sounds very similar in concept to Netflix’s megahit KPop Demon Hunters.
SI-VIS: The Sound of Heroes is about a co-ed Japanese pop group that performs live across the nation to get enough power-ups from their adoring fans to defeat an evil entity. Another borrowed element is the fact that the singing voices of the core characters will be provided by real musical artists from Sony Music’s talent roster. Sony plans to reveal the names of these performers leading up to the series’ debut on Fuji TV in October.
It’s worth noting that Sony Pictures Animation served as the lead producer on KPop Demon Hunters, which has quickly become a global success since its launch in June. The CG-animated feature has been watched more than 106 million times to date and is the first film ever to reach a viewing peak on Netflix five weeks after its release.
Demon Hunters is making an equally big splash in the music industry. Its fictional K-pop bands Saja Boys and HUNTR/X claimed the first and second spots on Spotify’s US charts this month.
