Roblox has unveiled that Netflix, SEGA, Lionsgate and manga publisher Kodansha have signed on as the first partners for its new License Manager program.

Unveiled last month and rolling out this quarter, the License Manager is a set of tools that allows Roblox users to easily pitch and develop new branded experiences with the licensor’s permission. In exchange for these rights, developers must meet strict brand guidelines and pay royalty rates to the IP owner if their title makes any money.

IPs eligible for use at launch will include Netflix’s Squid Game and Stranger Things franchises; SEGA’s Like a Dragon series of action games; Lionsgate’s Twilight movies; and Kodansha’s Blue Lock soccer anime franchise. More brands from each partner are set to join the License Manager’s catalogue at a later date once these initial offerings are tested.

In terms of royalties, SEGA has shared that users who apply for the Like A Dragon license will get a 50% revenue split, but they must have 1,000 daily active users in order to be eligible. Netflix isn’t requiring any minimum user count, but developers who license its brands will only take home 15% of the revenue their experiences make. While these are early examples, rights holders are free to update the terms of their deals during the creator application process.

Roblox has earmarked this licensing initiative as a key pillar for growth, and its goal is to corner a 10% share of all global gaming revenue (roughly US$18.2 billion) by the end of this year. Roblox creators are also on track to hit a new milestone by collectively earning US$1 billion on the platform in 2025, up from US$923 million last year and US$741 million in 2023.
