Netflix is in early development on a new Land of the Lost reboot—helmed by the daughter of one of the beloved original series’ legendary creators.

This reboot from Legendary Television and the studio behind the original series, Krofft Pictures, is in very early development. “Land of the Lost is a cornerstone production and fan-favorite for Krofft Pictures,” says a company spokesperson. “Deanna Krofft—COO and Marty Krofft’s daughter—is extremely excited about the partnership with Legendary and Netflix.” She’ll be Krofft Pictures’ lead on the reboot, taking a producer credit.

The original series—a ’70s live-action/stop-motion adventure that ran for three seasons—focused on a family that was trapped in a land of dinosaurs and monsters. A remake ran for two seasons in the ’90s, and a feature film starring Will Ferrell that parodied the series was released in 2009.

Canadian TV writers and puppeteers Sid and Marty Krofft were also the driving forces behind kids & family shows such as The Bugaloos, Sigmund and the Sea Monsters and Wonderbug. Marty passed away in 2023, but many of the TV titles they created have demonstrated strong staying power, continuing to engage large fanbases even decades after airing.

In 2017, Amazon ordered a rebooted Sigmund and the Sea Monsters series, and VOD platform Cineverse launched a dedicated streaming channel featuring the Kroffts’ work in 2023.
