Pixar Animation Studios is teaming up with Luca director Enrico Casarosa again for the summer 2027 feature film Gatto, which blends a 2D-handpainted style with CG animation.

Italian filmmaker Casarosa—who worked as a story artist on Pixar films Cars (2006) and Ratatouille (2007), and directed Luca (2021) for a Disney+ release—returns to the studio with this new adventure/comedy about a cat named Nero who’s indebted to a mob boss but rethinks his life when he’s adopted by a street artist.

Pixar’s chief creative officer Pete Docter showed off animation tests for the newly announced film at Annecy today.

During the studio’s presentation, Pixar also screened a 27-minute preview of its upcoming feature Elio (set for a June 20 release), about a kid who gets mistaken by aliens as Earth’s ambassador and has to defend the planet from an evil invader. Pixar also presented a first-look clip of Hoppers (releasing on March 6, 2026). In this feature film, an animal lover puts her consciousness into a robot beaver and teams up with other animals to stop a new highway from wrecking the forest.

And capping off Pixar’s announcements, Docter also revealed that Toy Story 5 (launching on June 19, 2026) will see Tom Hanks, Tim Allen and Joan Cusack reprise their roles from the earlier films. This latest instalment in one of Pixar’s biggest franchises tracks how the toys react when their eight-year-old owner gets a tablet and starts preferring tech over toys. Toy Story was Pixar’s first feature film and released in 1995.
