Sky Kids has greenlit the BBC Studios Kids & Family and Trustbridge Entertainment co-production My Friend Maisy, a 2D-animated preschool series based on the bestselling books by Lucy Cousins.

The 52 x five-minute series follows Maisy the mouse and her friends on their adventures, including flying a rocket to the moon and meeting zebras. Matilda Tristram (Peppa Pig) is head writer on this adaptation, which Sky’s director of kids content Lucy Murphy commissioned.

The Maisy book series originated in 1990 and today includes more than 100 titles that have sold upwards of 46 million copies worldwide.

Trustbridge Entertainment (the entertainment/adaptation division of publisher Trustbridge Global Media) spearheaded this preschool project, and BBC Studios Kids & Family came on board as a co-producer in September. Trustbridge-owned Walker Books/Candlewick Press publishes the Maisy books, which were previously adapted into a 1999 2D-animated series for Nick Jr. and CITV King Rollo Films.

The new series is currently in production, with Bristol-based A Productions and London’s Karrot Entertainment providing the animation (these studios also worked together on Boat Rocker’s animated series Love Monster).
