A new CG-animated book adaptation called Mr. Crocodile (52 x 11 minutes, pictured) has been scooped up by Nickelodeon to air on its Nick Jr. channels globally.
Based on Gallimard’s bestselling French kids book Monsieur Crocodile a Beaucoup Faim (Mr. Crocodile is Very Hungry) by Joann Sfar, this series is produced by Sfar’s Mediawan-backed banner Magical Society and distributed by Mediawan Kids & Family. It will premiere domestically on France Télévisions before Nick Jr. takes it around the world.
Exploring the friendship between eight-year-old Daisy and the cheerful crocodile who also resides in her mobile home community, Sfar developed Mr. Crocodile with scriptwriter Simon Nicholson (whose credits include PJ Masks, Captain Mack and Thomas & Friends), and the concept was pitched at Cartoon Forum 2021. Sfar previously worked on animated feature film Little Vampire (2020) as a writer, director and producer.
Max Goodman and Lynsey O’Callaghan are on board as Nickelodeon’s EICs (executives in charge), and writer/producer Rachel Lipman (Rugrats, Elinor Wonders Why) will executive produce. Producers include Sfar and Magical Society co-founder Aton Soumache and Cédric Pilot.
