Cartoon Forum picks 75 projects to present in 2025

And notably, there's a sharp increase in the number of preschool concepts that will be featured at this year's pitchfest.

Cartoon Forum has unveiled the 75 animated series and specials in development that will be pitched at its annual event in Toulouse (September 15 to 18), and the selection includes a lot more preschool projects this year.

Breaking the pool down by target demo, 34 are aimed at children (45.3%), 21 at preschoolers (28%), 15 at teens, YA and adults (20%), and five at families (6.7%).

This is in stark contrast to 2024, when 7% of the selected projects were for preschoolers and more than 60% for kids. And CARTOON general director Annick Maes says the shift was obviously noticeable at the submission stage as well.

In terms of where the projects hail from, France leads the pack with 30—which is quite typical for the Toulouse-based event. Some French studios presenting this year include Blue Spirit Productions (Action Rabbits, a co-pro with Atomic Cartoons) and Somewhere Animation, which will pitch a graphic novel adaptation called Chococat & Me (pictured) and also Temtem, a vidgame-based co-pro with Kiss A Frog.

Ireland is next in terms of volume with seven projects, followed by Belgium and Spain (six each), Germany and Italy (three each), Greece and the Netherlands (two each) and single projects from Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Portugal and Sweden. A total of 11 projects were selected from the CEE region—more specifically Poland (three), Czechia and Serbia (two each), and Armenia, Bosnia, Bulgaria and Latvia (one each).

Nearly half of the selections (43%) are co-productions, including six that involve companies from non-EU countries: Canada, the UK, Switzerland, Japan, Brazil and Chile.

Cartoon Forum isn’t spotlighting a specific country this year, choosing to focus on its Animated UK Meets Europe program instead, according to a spokesperson. For this initiative, two British projects backed by the BBC (to be announced shortly) will pitch during a special session on September 17.

All told, Cartoon Forum 2025’s 75 officially selected projects have a total budget of US$374.3 million and represent almost 400 hours of content. The full list is available now on the event’s  website
