Preschool series Stan & Gran (52 x 11 minutes) is back on track to head into production with new partner Tiger Aspect Kids & Family on board. Banijay Kids & Family’s studio has signed on to co-produce the toon with existing partners Xentrix Studios (India) and Jollywise Media (UK).
Tiger Aspect is taking over from Jellyfish Originals, which played a key role in steering the series’ development before making an exit earlier this year, just as production was about to start. The Jellyfish Pictures banner shut down operations in March due to ongoing business challenges related to the impact of COVID-19 and the Hollywood strikes.
“Banijay Kids & Family can provide solutions for productions navigating challenging market conditions and is committed to supporting stories that will inspire and entertain young audiences,” says Banijay Kids & Family CEO BenoĆ®t Di Sabatino.
Stan & Gran‘s new co-pro deal builds on an existing connection to Banijay, whose kids & family distribution arm picked up worldwide distribution rights to the series last year. Tiger Aspect Kids & Family MD Tom Beattie also noted that he had seen the project in its early stages through a connection to its creator, Jollywise MD Jon Mason.
Production under Tiger Aspect will kick off this month, with Mason and Natalie Adams (nee Llewellyn)—who led Jellyfish’s originals push—executive producing.
British channel 5’s Milkshake! preschool strand commissioned Stan & Gran, which revolves around a young boy and his grandmother as they investigate mysteries in a coastal town. The series is also pre-sold to Nickelodeon UK, ABC Australia, RTE Ireland, SVT Sweden, BBC Alba and S4C Wales.
