It’s the end of a six-year hiatus for The Amazing World of Gumball, one of Cartoon Network’s most notable hits from the 2010s.

Titled The Wonderfully Weird World of Gumball (40 x 11 minutes), season seven of the animated sitcom will roll out later this year on Cartoon Network’s international channels, Hulu (US) and HBO Max (outside the US).

Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe is producing this franchise continuation that’s been in the works since at least 2021, when WarnerMedia Kids & Family teased an upcoming new series and TV film to follow the show’s eight-year run, which ended in 2019.

Exploring the wacky life of a 12-year-old anthropomorphic cat and his adopted goldfish brother, Gumball‘s offbeat humor and hybrid visual style have attracted a strong fanbase and earned accolades including nine BAFTAs and an Emmy Award.

Creator Ben Bocquelet is back to executive produce the new season, which will continue to lean into Gumball‘s signature brand of surreal humor—already demonstrated in a “leaked” teaser—as well as its bizarre mix of visual styles including 2D and CG animation, puppetry, photorealism and live action. Plot points will range from Gumball fighting against an evil fast-food empire, to dealing with his mom falling in love with a sentient AI.

During the six-year hiatus, Cartoon Network has kept the Gumball fans engaged with the brand by releasing two miniseries in 2019 and 2020, plus a Gumball Tower of Defence Roblox game last year.
