Webtoon has hired Priya Girishankar to head up marketing for its English-language service, and showrunner Aaron Waltke boards Prime Video’s Wings of Fire series.

  • Webtoon Entertainment has appointed former Disney Rewards SVP Priya Girishankar (pictured) to serve as head of marketing for its English-language service. In addition to spearheading marketing strategy, she’s also tasked with developing new initiatives to accelerate the platform’s growth. Girishankar is based in LA and reports to Webtoon’s chief strategy officer Yongsoo Kim. 

 

  • American screenwriter Aaron Waltke has landed a new gig as the showrunner of Amazon Prime Video’s animated adaptation of the Wings of Fire book series. He’ll also serve as an executive producer and co-write the script with author Tui T. Sutherland. This is the second attempt at bringing Sutherland’s books to the small screen; Netflix scrapped a 10-episode order with Warner Bros. Television in 2022. 

 

  • Property investment firm Landsec has tapped ex-BBC Children’s director Alice Webb as the first CEO of its MediaCity innovation hub in Greater Manchester. In this newly created role, Webb will run and unify the business operations of MediaCity and TV studio dock10, which is used for filming the BBC’s Match of the Day football series and Channel 4’s quiz show Countdown. Current dock10 CEO Mark Senior is stepping down from his position and will transition into an advisory role upon Webb’s arrival.
