Nickelodeon and SAG-AFTRA have reached a tentative agreement on a new three-year contract that will govern the involvement of Guild actors in animated programming produced for Nick’s cable channels and Paramount+.
Some highlights in this new Nickelodeon Animation Agreement include pay increases worth more than US$3.25 million, higher rates for interstitials, and protections against AI. It also incorporates some of the gains SAG-AFTRA achieved in an updated Television Animation Agreement Made For New Media that went into effect in 2023, such as SVOD residual improvements and a success bonus.
Additionally, voice actors will get residuals if their voice is altered when a show is dubbed into a foreign language and then distributed internationally. And Nick has agreed to set up regular mandatory meetings for producers to track and review how AI versions of voice actors’ performances are being used.
Finally, the agreement includes a new 25% premium for multitracking (re-recording an original track) and sweetening (recording additional tracks that are different from the original), additional work that’s done after the original recording session.
As a next step, SAG-AFTRA will now send the Nickelodeon Animation Agreement to its National Board for review and ratification.
