- ZDF has picked up CG-animated comedy series Team Nuggets (pictured, 52 x seven minutes) from distributor Serious Kids and plans to launch it on KiKA later this year. This co-pro from Sparre Productions and Godo Films targets five- to eight-year-olds with a story about a young chicken going to school for the first time and learning how to make friends and practice self-control. Denmark’s DR commissioned and premiered Team Nuggets in 2023, and Sparre and Godo are currently in pre-production on season two.
- In other ZDF news, BBC has acquired the German pubcaster’s 27-minute film Mr Bergmann’s Little Red Riding Hood. Animated in Minecraft’s blocky style, this reimagining of the classic fairytale features a young boy protagonist who travels back in time to save Red Riding Hood from the wolf—only to find that Red is more than capable of facing danger on her own. Indie creator Tim Bergmann, who makes Minecraft-style videos for his YouTube channel Herr Bergmann (1.13 million subscribers), produced the film.
- Hasbro has signed a mutli-year extension of its deal with Disney Consumer Products to continue manufacturing and distributing Marvel and Star Wars toys. The agreement covers multiple categories, including action figures, lightsaber toys and preschool products.
- Paramount Consumer Products & Experiences UK has granted a license to Rubies to make costumes and accessories based on a collection of major kids franchises in its portfolio, such as PAW Patrol, Dora, TMNT, SpongeBob SquarePants and Avatar: The Last Airbender. Rubies’ new product ranges will launch in the UK and EMEA later this year.
- Nickelodeon has renewed animated comedy series Rock Paper Scissors for two more 10-episode seasons that will be produced in-house by the Nickelodeon Animation team. Season two is set to launch this fall on Nick in the US before it rolls out internationally next year. Paramount+ will start streaming season one (20 episodes) on May 28, and Nick has also greenlit 20 one-minute shorts to air later this year.
