Former Netflix and Nickelodeon director Amy Takahara has set up a new LA-based consulting firm and is looking to share her 20-plus years of experience in development and acquisitions.

According to Takahara’s LinkedIn post on Friday, Sigma Girl Media will focus on helping producers, creators and streamers ideate kids, YA and family content for a global audience. Services include steering projects through all stages of development and production, from concept to delivery, as well as advising IPs that have strong kids market potential.

“With the industry in such a challenged state right now, producers, IP owners and creators are trying to figure out ways to get their content in front of audiences, and international co-productions could provide that opportunity,” says Takahara. “Consulting allows me to use my global market experience to help buyers and sellers connect. I am uniquely positioned for this because I understand the business side of the industry, and I know how to develop strong characters and compelling stories that are also commercially viable.”

Takahara previously worked at Netflix for more than six years, most recently in a director of kids & family acquisitions and co-commissions role that saw her head up strategy for animation and live action. She acquired CoComelon and Shaun the Sheep: Farmageddon for the streamer, and oversaw the development of YA series such as Geek Girl and Surviving Summer (pictured). Before joining Netflix, Takahara was a director of global acquisitions at Nickelodeon. And she has served in key distribution positions at The Jim Henson Company, Mattel and Fremantle earlier in her career.

“I love helping teams shape strategy, find the right creative fit, and build content with both vision and longevity,” Takahara said in her LinkedIn post. “If you’re looking for a creative partner with global insight, business savvy and deep market experience—I’d love to connect.”
