With a stacked slate of animated and live-action contenders coming out to entertain kids out of school, where would you put your money?
April 3, 2025

There’s no doubt that kids & family movies had an excellent run last year—with titles like Inside Out 2, Moana 2, Despicable Me 4, Mufasa: The Lion King and Kung Fu Panda 4 all crossing the US$500-million milestone in ticket sales.

And hopes are high that this trend will continue in summer 2025. Setting the stage is tomorrow’s release of A Minecraft Movie, which is on track for a solid domestic opening weekend of more than US$70 million. But Disney’s live-action Lilo & Stitch (May 23), Universal’s How To Train Your Dragon (June 13), Pixar’s Elio (June 20), Paramount’s Smurfs (July 18) and DreamWorks Animation’s The Bad Guys 2 (August 1) are also hitting the big screen while kids are out of school, and we want to know which one you think will be this year’s biggest earner.
