Building momentum for Peppa Pig‘s eighth season, Hasbro is teeing up Peppa Meets the Baby Cinema Experience for a May 30 theatrical release with event cinema distributor Trafalgar Releasing.
This content package will roll out in 2,600 theaters across 14 countries, including the UK, the US, Canada and Australia. It includes six music videos and 10 Peppa Pig episodes from the new season—nine of which won’t air on TV until late summer/fall.
These episodes showcase the much-anticipated arrival of Peppa’s new piglet sibling—a buzzy storyline that was first teased in a viral announcement of Mummy Pig’s pregnancy in February. In a Kidscreen interview last month, Hasbro’s Esra Cafer (SVP of global franchise strategy and management for preschool and fashion) revealed that the decision to expand Peppa’s family from four to five emerged from a year-long research study conducted with preschoolers and families.
Episode compilations are a tried-and-true event cinema formula for Hasbro, which followed a similar strategy with releases like Peppa Pig: My First Cinema Experience (2017), and most recently last February, when its hit preschool brand turned 20.
For this anniversary event, a 10-episode package called Peppa’s Cinema Party rolled out in select theaters globally, also in partnership with Trafalgar Releasing. As per data from Box Office Mojo, this release generated more than US$3.4 million from a handful of EMEA and APAC territories.
