Netflix shows scored two wins in the kids & family category at the 36th annual GLAAD Media Awards last night in LA, honoring the best LGBTQ representations in media over the past year.
See-Saw Films’ inclusive series Heartstopper (pictured)—about two teen boys who fall in love—won the prize for Outstanding Kids & Family Programming or Film – Live Action.
In the animation category, CG toon Jurassic World: Chaos Theory—which portrays an LGBTQ relationship between main characters Sammy and Yaz—took home the trophy for Outstanding Kids & Family Programming or Film – Animated. DreamWorks Animation Television and Amblin Entertainment are behind this show.
Nickelodeon was the winner in the competitive category of Outstanding Children’s Programming for The Fairly OddParents: A New Wish. This CG-animated reboot added a non-binary character named Winn Harper to the cast.
Season three of Heartstopper launched in October, while Chaos Theory debuted its first season last May. Each of these seasons racked up around 10.9 million views, according to Netflix’s latest biannual engagement report. Meanwhile, A New Wish also rolled out internationally on Netflix in November (months after its US debut on Nickelodeon in May 2024) and captured roughly 5.2 million views, according to the engagement data.
