Backpack and apparel manufacturer Bioworld Merchandising is bolstering its presence in Europe by acquiring UK-based home textiles company Character World Brands for an undisclosed amount.

Bioworld CEO Raj Malik says the acquisition is part of a larger play to accelerate the growth of its business and expand product offerings. The Dallas-based backpacks and apparel manufacturer will also leverage Character World’s network of more than 160 retail partners to unlock new distribution channels and strengthen its foothold in key markets within the US, UK and Europe.

Character World is best known for manufacturing and distributing licensed ranges of hardlines for kids, which includes bedding (pictured), bath towels, travel sets and furniture. The company also holds more than 100 licenses in its portfolio, spanning Sonic the Hedgehog, PAW Patrol, Bluey, Barbie, Star Wars and Peppa Pig.

In addition to this latest buyout, Bioworld says it is continuing to actively explore other strategic acquisitions, investments and partnerships to expand further. Last year, the company purchased party accessories company Packed Party and licensed headwear and sportswear maker Portland Accessories.
