BBC Children’s unveils new commissions

The pubcaster is banking on gardening-inspired formats to grow its youngest audience.

BBC Children’s and Education has announced a fresh batch of series commissions and renewals.

In the mix are three new CBeebies titles, starting with I Spy, You Spy (26 x five minutes). Slated for a fall release, this show tags along with a puppet named Elsee as she travels across the UK taking in the sights in the countryside, the big cities and a few indoor spots. Tiny House Productions—which received support from the BBC’s Small Indie Fund in 2023—is producing the series with NEST Productions.

The other new commissions will see CBeebies doubling down on kid-friendly gardening content with two new series in this subgenre.

First up, London’s Gold Wala—which produced What’s In Your Bag? for the pubcaster—is putting a new spin on that show’s format with What’s In Your Plant Pot? (30 x seven minutes). While specifics on the release date are not yet available, the show will offer a mix of fun facts and interactive participation to educate young viewers about various flowers and veggies.

The second green-thumb commission is a concept called I Can Grow It (30 x 10 minutes), in which TV presenter Aaron Roach Bridgeman teaches a group of preschool-aged aspiring gardeners how to grow plants—while also involving musical elements from Bridgeman, who is a beatboxer and songwriter. West Midlands-based Common Story is producing this series, which will launch in spring 2026.

On the renewal side, the Beeb has also re-upped a pair of sporty CBBC titles. The basketball-focused comedy High Hoops (10 x 30 minutes, pictured) from Yorkshire’s Can Can Productions has scored a second season on the heels of its debut this month, while The Football Academy (15 x 22 minutes) from London-based Zig Zag has gotten a greenlight for a third season. This marks a bounce-back moment for Zig Zag after its production unit went into insolvency a year ago.
