With Blue Ant Media emerging as an active player in the M&A space over the past few years, Kidscreen wants to hear what you think will be next on the list for Michael MacMillan’s Toronto-based company.

Acquisitions—ranging from Racat Group in 2017 to marblemedia in 2023—have helped drive a broad growth spurt for Blue Ant that includes an expanding catalogue of kids and family titles, such as the Canadian version of Old Enough! (TVO), teen comedy Davey and Jonesie’s Locker (pictured, Prime Video/Hulu) and the upcoming preschool toon Tralala (CBC/SkyNZ).

And just this week, Blue Ant revealed big plans to go public through a reverse takeover of Boat Rocker Media, in which Blue Ant acquired three of Boat Rocker’s Canadian prodcos (Insight Productions, Jam Filled Entertainment and Proper Television).

The move followed a strong fiscal year for the company (a period that ended on August 31, 2024), with Blue Ant reporting roughly US$137 million (CAD$196 million) in revenue—a 16% revenue uptick over the previous year.

Among other notable purchases, the company acquired preschool IP Jelly Jamm in 2019, and it also bought the UK production financing and distribution firm Drive Media Rights in 2022. And Blue Ant has established a global presence, with bases LA, New York, Washington, London, Sydney, and Singapore.

Going by the company’s track record and its imminent new chapter as a publicly traded company, what do you think Blue Ant will be buying next? Kidscreen invites you to put on your thinking caps and share your thoughts and predictions below.
