Toonz Media Group has entered a partnership with Jay@Play to develop a bite-sized series based on the Hong Kong-based toymaker’s Hangry Petz stuffed animal range.
Hangry Petz (26 x three minutes) will be a CG-animated take on characters from the plush collection, which had a soft launch last year, featuring house cat Bella and her tech-savvy bestie, Charlie Bulldog.
The series is expected to launch in August on a dedicated YouTube channel. Toonz will also be handling global distribution for the project, which will be aimed at a broad audience of preteens and families, according to the company.
Living up to the name, the series will tag along with the duo as they plan food heists and try to figure out new ways to secure treats. Accompanying them on their foodie missions is a monster named Rogue, whose special powers include the ability to become invisible.
Other characters from the toy collection include an ice cream-loving unicorn named Luna, Cooper the cool-as-cucumber husky, and Lucy—a pink cat with a passion for tuna.
With the digital series, Toonz is looking to build on the brand’s burgeoning online presence—including an official TikTok account with a slew of all-ages comedic content that has more than 3,700 followers.
Other franchise extensions for the IP include an upcoming range of merch and a newly launched mobile app called Hangry Petz: The Game, which was developed by India’s MiracleSkies Games.
