Two animated kids projects are among several Canada-Luxembourg co-productions to receive support from Canada Media Fund and Film Fund Luxembourg.

The two funding bodies are making a joint investment of US$611,827 (CDN$882,540) in four projects—one animated feature film, one animated series and two immersive experience/extended reality installations. The money will be distributed under the umbrella of the Canada-Luxembourg Co-Development and Co-Production Incentive for Audiovisual Projects.

Algorythme (26 x five minutes) was awarded US$28,176 (€26,000) from FFL and US$28,160 (CDN$40,600) from CMF. This French-language, digital-first, 2D-animated series is will be produced by Canada’s Films Extérieur Jour and Zeilt Productions in Luxembourg. It’s designed to teach kids about digital literacy, and revolves around a futurist vlogger who accesses the internet using a virtual reality headset. Last year, Algorythme was also awarded funding through the 2024 Short Form Series Development Program Funding Decisions run by the Independent Production Fund  and CMF.

Welcome to Earth is a 75-minute 3D-animated feature film directed by Luxemburg’s Sarah Sutter (Benjamin Bat). Produced by Zeilt and Canada’s Productions des Années Lumière, it received US$23,840 (CDN$34,400) from CMF and US$32,508 (€30,000) from FFL. Based on a same-name TV series (pictured above) for the six to nine set that’s currently in production on a second season, it tells the tale of alien sibling spies who are undertaking their first mission on Earth. The first season had 25 five-minute episodes, but Zeilt says that for the second season of the show, it is working with a flexible format “in which each producer can create as many episodes as they can finance.”
