ABC Australia and BBC Studios have renewed their partnership in a new multi-year agreement that provides the pubcaster’s channels and iview streamer with continued access to a significant package of BBC Studios content.
The deal also gives ABC first-run rights to a number of children’s titles for the first time—including 2D-animated preschool series Hey Duggee (season five) and Supertato (season two), and live-action edutainment shows such as Horrible Histories (season 11), Andy’s Global Adventures (“Baby Animal Mission”) and Deadly 60 (season five).
Tapping into the natural history genre, ABC will premiere BBC Studios’ upcoming Walking With Dinosaurs docuseries revival (six x 50 minutes) that the Beeb and PBS ordered last year.
“Our relationship has evolved as the industry [has shifted], but what has remained unchanged is how our content continues to resonate with Australian audiences,” said Deborah Tod, BBC Studios’ director of content partnerships and sales for ANZ. She also emphasized the “common public service sensibilities” between the two partners.
Last week, BBC Studios finalized a similar deal with Spain’s Movistar Plus+ covering multiple BBC Earth programs and bringing BBC Player into the region.
