A movie adaption of bestselling vampiric book series House of Night is in development. Penned by author P.C. Cast and her daughter Kristin Cast, 12 main novels have been published since 2007, in addition to a number of sequel books and novellas.
The duo shared the film news on Facebook, adding that they are “crafting the script” based on the series’ first two titles, Marked and Betrayed. Casting is also underway, with Rain Li (Beijing, New York) attached to direct and Victor Hadida (Resident Evil) and Molly Hassell (The Crow) producing. And Highland Film Group will sell the film at the European Film Market in Berlin this week.
House of Night features a girl named Zoey, who attends a boarding school for fledgling vampires. Along with adolescent love and new friendships, she must navigate the realization that she may have extraordinary powers that set her apart from her blood-sucking peers.
Published by St. Martin’s Press and Atom/Little Brown, the House of Night books developed a strong fanbase in the late 2000s, an era that also spawned the Twilight film franchise (Lionsgate) and teen drama series The Vampire Diaries (The CW). To date, House of Night has sold more than 31 million copies in 40 countries.
