The 30th Critics Choice Awards, originally set to air January 12, faced multiple delays before finally hitting the stage on February 7 at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California. The ceremony, which honors achievements in film and television, was twice postponed due to the wildfires in Southern California, which disrupted events across the region.
Among the notable winners, The Wild Robot (pictured, DreamWorks Animation) took home Best Animated Feature. The adaptation of Peter Brown’s novel beat out a strong array of contenders that included Inside Out 2 and Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl.
On the television side, X-Men ’97 (Marvel Studios) was the highlight of the Best Animated Series category. The revival of the 1990s animated series brought nostalgia and fresh storytelling to a new audience, earning critical acclaim for its faithful yet modernized approach.
The musical adaptation Wicked (Universal Pictures), meanwhile, managed to land a trio of awards—including Best Director for Jon M. Chu, Best Production Design for Nathan Crowley and Lee Sandales, and Best Costume Design for Paul Tazewell.
