Nine new Quebec-made animated series are getting a financial boost, thanks to a US$2.1-million (CAN$3-million) investment from the Canada Media Fund (CMF) and the Société de développement des entreprises culturelles (SODEC). The funding will support a diverse mix of 2D, CG and stop-motion projects designed for kids and youth audiences, including Albert, le lapin abstrait, Drama Queen, Le blues du bayou, Les tout doux, Ma maison-tête, Nebulous Stars, Pauline, Super ami and Tribu 3000.
Backed by Quebec-based studios like Embuscade Films, Productions Squeeze, RodeoFX Originals and Happy Camper Média, each project will receive between US$66,000 (CAN$94,500) and US$300,000 (CAD$428,000) to help them through production.
The funding comes from the CMF-SODEC Prototyping of Children and Youth Animation Series Program, a new initiative that launched in June 2024 to accelerate the development of original Quebec-made animated content by helping creators secure financing from broadcasters, distributors and international partners.
SODEC is contributing US$1.4 million (CAD$2 million) to the program, with CMF adding an additional US$700,000 (CAD$1 million).
