MIMO Studios and Like a Photon Creative have teamed up with Crayola Studios to produce a new CG-animated feature film called Maggie and Abby’s Neverending Pillow Fort.
Based on a same-name book (pictured) by kids author Will Taylor that was published by HarperCollins in 2018, this 85-minute big-screen romp is about two best friends who discover that the pillow fort they made is a portal to pillow forts all over the world.
Production starts later this month in Australia and should wrap by summer 2027. To help finance the film, Like a Photon was able to tap into Screen Queensland’s Post Digital and Visual incentive, offering a 15% rebate on projects with a minimum US$157,000 (AUD$250,000) qualifying spend.
The Aussie prodco will handle the animation work, with MIMO Studios involved as a producer. And in its second collaboration with MIMO, Crayola Studios is producing and financing the film. Both based in New York, the companies previously worked together in 2023 on developing a 52 x 11-minute series called The Alien Adventures of Finn Caspian.
Like a Photon (Combat Wombat) and MIMO also have a pre-existing relationship. Like a Photon is producing MIMO’s animated feature The Pout-Pout Fish, which is set to premiere later this year, and they’re co-developing two other films together.
