Nostalgic revivals of popular ’90s franchises are showing no signs of slowing down, and the Buffyverse is the latest one gearing up to make a small-screen comeback.

According to several media reports, a reboot of Buffy the Vampire Slayer (pictured) is in the works at 20th Television and Searchlight TV, and is close to scoring a pilot order from Hulu.

The original live-action series starred Sarah Michelle Gellar as Buffy Summers, a high-school student and stereotypical Valley Girl who becomes the successor in a long line of slayers—young women who are chosen to hunt down vampires, demons and other creatures.

Gellar is only expected to make recurring appearances in the reboot, according to The Hollywood Reporter, suggesting that the project will focus on a new teen slayer protagonist. But she is on board as an executive producer, along with Chloé Zhao (Eternals), who will direct the pilot; and original series EPs Gail Berman (The Jackal Group, which is behind Netflix hit Wednesday), Fran and Kaz Kuzui (Suite B) and singer/actor Dolly Parton (through her Sandollar banner). Nora and Lilla Zuckerman—who penned the MCU series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.—are also attached as writers.

Created by Joss Whedon, who is not involved in this reboot, the original Buffy series premiered on The WB in 1997 and went on the air for seven seasons, becoming one of the most acclaimed teen shows of all time and also spawning a spinoff series called Angel.
