Italian pubaster RAI has commissioned Spanish studio Peekaboo Animation’s 2D-animated reboot of The Triplets, which is expected to deliver in early 2027.
RAI’s order is for two 26 x 11-minute seasons, and Peekaboo has already signed a presale to RTP in Portugal and co-production deals with Italian (RainFrog) and Portugese (Sardinha em Lata) partners. Plus RTVE and 3CAT in Spain are both on board as domestic commissioners.
The original series—based on a collection of children’s books written in the ’80s by Spanish illustrator Roser Capdevila—launched on Catalan TV in 1994, and eventually spawned more than 100 episodes.
Peekaboo’s reboot stays pretty close to the original, focusing on three sisters who travel back in time with a friendly witch to meet historical and fictional characters from around the world. Production on season one is set to start this fall. The project was originally a Brutal Media production, but Peekaboo took it over last year after Brutal was acquired by BBC Studios.
