Awesomeness TV has scooped up the entertainment rights to That Friend, putting a TV adaptation of this quirky audiobook into development.

Published this week (January 28) by Simon & Schuster, That Friend tags along with an aspiring influencer in New York as she juggles spending time with her three besties with building a successful podcast. It was created by actor and comedian Sabrina Brier, who based the story on a persona she developed for a series of comedic skits that were published on her TikTok account (816,700 followers). 

Awesomeness TV is executive producing the series and banking on the audiobook’s Gen-Z edge and humor to appeal to broader young audiences. The company has a solid track record for producing youth-skewing hits, including teen romance franchise To All the Boys (Netflix), Nickelodeon sequel pic Zoey 102 (Paramount+) and last year’s coming-of-age drama Little Wing (Paramount+).
