Mellany Welsh sails on with Boat Rocker Studios

She left Corus two weeks ago for this "new opportunity" as SVP of brand partnerships and content marketing at the Canadian prodco behind Dino Ranch and Daniel Spellbound.

Mellany Welsh has joined Boat Rocker Studios as SVP of brand partnerships and content marketing, replacing Kate Schlomann, who left the Toronto-based prodco last month

Effective immediately, Welsh now reports to Jon Rutherford, Boat Rocker’s president of global rights, franchise and content strategy. She will focus on managing brand strategy & partnerships, licensing and content marketing initiatives across the company—including its kids & family division.

Boat Rocker’s youth programming catalogue includes CG-animated preschool series Dino Ranch (Disney+, Disney Junior, CBC), teen drama The Next Step (BBC, CBC, Corus) and fantasy toon Daniel Spellbound (Netflix). The studio is also currently working on a spinoff show called Dino Ranch: Island Explorers, commissioned by CBC/Radio-Canada and Warner Bros. Discovery for a 2026 launch.

This move marks a new chapter for Welsh, who left Corus Entertainment just two weeks ago (January 17) after seven years with the company. In her most recent role, she served as VP and head of Nelvana Enterprises and Kids Can Press. But this was actually Welsh’s second stint with the Canadian media conglom—she previously worked there from 2011 to 2015, managing licensing for North America and Asia.

And earlier in her career, Welsh sharpened her brand expertise at Disney Publishing Worldwide (assistant category manager of English-language learning), Canadian grocery chain Loblaw (senior manager of brand marketing) and Imports Dragon (director of global business development at ID Toys).
