Nickelodeon Unscripted & Digital Studio has just delivered a trail-blazing new project called Kid Cowboy, the broadcaster’s first original animated series for YouTube.
Launching today on Nick’s Blaze and the Monster Machines YouTube channel (six million subscribers), this CG toon blends classic Western cinematic elements with futuristic tech. Main character Kid Cowboy and his flying robohorse watch over the world of Esperanza, sticking to the Cowboy Code of “Be Brave! Be Kind! Be True!” as they save the day in action-packed escapades.
Golden Globe-nominated songwriter and producer Freddy Wexler created the series and is also one of its executive producers, as is 19-time Grammy Award winner Emilio Estefan. Wexler, who has worked with Ariana Grande and Justin Bieber, views the decision to premiere Kid Cowboy on YouTube as a way of “setting a new standard for how franchises are born.”
For Nickelodeon, the network has built up a cadre of strong YouTube channels, and now it’s time to use these popular platforms to launch new brands as well as promoting existing ones, said Ashley Kaplan, EVP of the Nickelodeon Unscripted & Digital Franchise Studio.
