In response to the LA wildfires and their devastating effect on industry colleagues who have lost their homes, belongings and even livelihoods, Kidscreen has organized a fundraising drive to support essential work being done on the ground to help displaced families.
The American Red Cross Disaster Relief Services branch responds to an emergency every eight minutes, from small house fires to widespread natural disasters. Filling in gaps that government agencies and other charities don’t touch, this team delivers clean water, safe shelter and hot meals to people when they need it most.
Right now in LA, nearly 580 Red Cross responders and 8,000 community volunteers are working day and night to provide help and hope with necessities like food, shelter, medical and emotional care, recovery planning and financial assistance. To date, they’ve arranged 9,400 overnight stays, served 90,000 meals and snacks, cared for countless minor injuries, and replaced essential items like medications and eyeglasses. But their work has just begun, and it’s going to be a long road to get these families back on their feet.
Most of us personally know people whose lives have been turned upside-down overnight by these catastrophic fires. If you’d like to do something to help them and so many others who’ve lost everything, please consider making a donation. Every dollar is greatly appreciated and will get us closer to our fundraising goal of US$10,000.
Many thanks,
