Jo Allen has taken on a new role at BBC Children’s and Education as an animation commissioning editor for the seven-plus audience, according to an announcement shared on her LinkedIn page.

Allen quietly stepped into this “newly created position” earlier this month after spending the past three years working as a commissioning executive for CBBC. She has been with the Beeb for more than a decade, starting out as an in-house producer on CBeebies series Go Jetters, and she worked as a producer at Aardman Animations earlier in her career.

As outlined in its 2024/2025 development priorities, the BBC is looking for fast-paced comedy toons for six to nines, and is particularly interested in double-edged content that has international appeal but with a British twist. For the slightly older 10 to 12 crowd, the broadcaster is keen on animation offering a “complex character journey”—potentially inspired by an anime or comic book IP.

This role change for Allen follows on the heels of Guy Phenix rejoining BBC Children’s earlier this month in the same position, but focused on the zero to six demo.
