A new report published by Qustodio—the 13-year-old software company behind a parental control system that limits daily screen time, blocks games and pauses internet access—finds that kids worldwide prefer to watch content on YouTube, Netflix and Disney+.

Released today, Qustodio’s 119-page The Digital Dilemma: Childhood at a Crossroads report outlines the screen-time habits and favorite apps of kids ages four to 18 worldwide. In order of preference, the most popular apps with this age group (based on the total percentage that opened them for at least five minutes in 2024) are YouTube, Netflix, Disney+, Amazon Prime, YouTube Kids and Twitch. YouTube Kids and Twitch switched spots since 2023, but the rest were status quo.

According to Qustodio, kids spent a daily average of 71 minutes watching their favorite YouTubers in 2024, which is pretty much the same as the previous year (70 minutes). And streaming platforms also kept them just as engaged for 58 minutes per day last year, compared to 57 in 2023.

TikTok held onto its ranking as the number-one most popular social media app with kids, who spent an average of two hours on it each day. Instagram trailed well behind (79 minutes), with Pinterest in a distant third (14 minutes).

Qustodio’s parental control system is available in more than 180 countries, and the company works with schools in some of these regions through a partnership with Australian technology provider Qoria. Tapping into these channels, its report draws data from a survey of 2,000 parents, anonymous data from 400,000 parents, and anonymous data from 10,000 schools in the US, UK and Australia.
