  • Kidscreen has confirmed that Nelvana Enterprises and Kids Can Press VP Mellany Welsh is leaving Corus. Her last day is tomorrow (January 17), and she’s off to pursue a new opportunity, according to a company spokesperson. Rachel Nelson (VP of original programming and head of Corus Studios) is assuming executive oversight of Nelvana and Kids Can Press, with Tonya Lindo serving as head of business operations for both companies. Head of production Vanessa Esteves will now manage the studio’s day-to-day business operations and production workflow. With more than 20 years of experience in the kids media business, Welsh stepped up a year ago to oversee all of Corus’s content and publishing business for children, after rejoining the company in 2018 as VP of global consumer products and international distribution (she previously worked in sales at Corus from 2011 to 2015).

  • In other departure news, Amy Takahara left Netflix earlier this week after six years with the company. Her most recent title was director of kids and family content acquisitions, but she joined at a manager level in 2018. Prior to that, Takahara served as director of global acquisitions at Nickelodeon (2016 to 2018) and director of global distribution & TV sales at The Jim Henson Company (2014 to 2016).
