ITV Studios’ Boom Group has hired veteran producer and commissioner Elen Rhys as its new head of Boom Kids. She’ll take over from Angharad Garlick, who’s stepping down in February after 20 years in the role.
Joining the team later this month, Rhys is coming off a nine-year stint at Welsh pubcaster S4C, where she served as head of entertainment and factual entertainment (2022 to 2024) and content commissioner for entertainment, music, comedy and factual content (2015 to 2022). She also spent 21 years at BBC Cymru Wales working as a series producer, scriptwriter and director on animated kids shows such as Tellytales (2009) and Bobinogs (2003).
Rhys will tap into her editorial and commissioning experience to drive new kids content into production at Boom. She’s based in Wales and will report to the studio’s managing director Nia Thomas.
Boom has also brought in former RDF director of production Angela Oakhill as director of operations. She will oversee the growth of the business and manage the senior leadership team, which includes Rhys plus Cai Morgan (head of digital), Katie Fazackerley Mason (head of production) and Lowri Farr (production executive).
During her long tenure, Garlick was instrumental in developing and producing many kids live-action series for the Welsh market, including Sunny Side Farm (musical), The Lift (game show), Sbridiri (arts & crafts) and Stwnsh Sadwrn (morning show).
