Animated films accounted for 17.7% of the total number of movie tickets sold worldwide for French cinema exports in 2024, and a few kids titles made the top-10 list, according to new data from Unifrance.

The agency’s latest French Productions Abroad report shows that French films drew 33.4 million viewers to cinemas during the first 50 weeks of the year, generating US$229.1 million (€222.8 million) in revenue. Unifrance estimates the revenue for the whole year will be US$257.1 million (€250 million) which is down by 11% from 2023.

Breaking things down by genre, 5.9 million of these movie-goers went to see an animated feature, as opposed to drama (8.7 million), comedy (7.3 million) and action-adventure (7.1 million). And two of 2024’s top-10 French films by ticket sales were made for kids.

In third spot, StudioCanal’s Autumn and the Black Jaguar (pictured)—a live-actioner about a 14-year old who returns to the Amazon rainforest to protect her jaguar friend from animal traffickers—attracted 2.4 million patrons and earned roughly US$17.1 million (€16.7 million) in 28 territories. It was an especially big hit in Germany, where it sold more than a million tickets.

And CG-animated pic The Jungle Bunch 2: World Tour from TAT Productions, SND Films, France 3 and Master Films came in fifth, selling a million tickets and earning US$6.3 million (€8.7 million).
