- BBC Studios has forged a partnership with The LEGO Group that will see the first building sets for preschool megahit Bluey roll out later this year. The six sets will be part of the LEGO 4+ and LEGO DUPLO product lines, both of which are designed for LEGO’s youngest builders. Ludo Studio’s Bluey is the most-watched series on Disney+, racking up more than 50.5 billion minutes of watch time in the US alone last year, according to Nielsen ratings.
- Cartoon Network has picked up global AVOD rights to Nice Ninja’s Apple Hills (pictured, 20 x five minutes), which will be available on its YouTube channel worldwide as of January 12. Co-produced by the Danish animation studio and commissioning broadcaster DR, the 2D toon is distributed by London-based Meta Media Entertainment. Apple Hills premiered on DR in September 2023 and racked up 6.5 million views on its streamer in its first three months. Season two (20 x six minutes) is in production now and scheduled for delivery sometime this quarter.
- Studio 100 Film (a Munich-based subsidiary of Studio 100 International) has picked up international distribution rights to a new racing movie that’s in production at Qvisten Animation (Captain Sabertooth). Rally—From Paris to the Pyramids follows an eccentric inventor and his two unlikely besties (a magpie and a hedgehog) as they compete in an epic Paris-to-the-Pyramids car race. Rasmus Sivertsen (In the Forest of Huckybucky) is directing the project, based on a script co-written by Rob Sprackling (Gnomeo & Juliet) and Karsten Fullu (Rekorden). Rebecca Padoin (Troll) is attached as producer. Nordisk Film Distribution will handle the movie’s rights in Scandinavia and is aiming for a Christmas 2025 premiere.
