BBC Children’s and Education is gearing up to add Wonderblocks (30 x five minutes), a new CG-animated series designed to help kids sharpen their thinking and problem-solving skills, to its CBeebies programming lineup on January 20.
Also available on iPlayer, the project follows the same format as its predecessors Numberblocks, Alphablocks and Colourblocks—all produced by Blue Zoo Animation and brand owner Alphablocks.
Joe Elliot and Tom Box co-created Wonderblocks in order to teach “pre-coding skills” like problem-solving, planning, pattern recognition, sequencing and logic—concepts that will help the preschoolers get a headstart on learning how to communicate and develop their computational thinking. Emma Goto of Winchester University provided expert consultation during development, and Joel Wilenius is the commissioning exec for CBeebies.
Wonderblocks will feature a new set of block characters, starring the excitable Go and the methodical Stop, who team up with “Do” blocks and cute animals to solve problems such as helping a cow find her moo and cracking the hen house code with a super-agent chicken.
